Upon arrival, we are greeted by the ground team who will transfer us to our accommodation, where we can drop off our luggage and acclimate to the city’s high altitude. Cusco, located at 3,400m (11,150 ft), is known for its stunning main square, charming cobbled streets, and traditional terracotta rooftops. An incredible adventure awaits!
Afternoon: Cusco City Tour
• Qorikancha – Step into history as we explore the Temple of the Sun, where the past whispers through its ancient walls.
• San Pedro Market – Experience Cusco’s vibrant flavours and colours, sampling exotic fruits and soaking in the local culture.
• Main Square & Cathedral – Marvel at Cusco’s architectural beauty and learn about its deep historical roots.
• San Blas Neighborhood – Wander the picturesque cobbled streets of this artisan quarter, where time seems to stand still.
• Sacsayhuaman Fortress – End the day with panoramic views of Cusco from this impressive Inca site.

• Train Journey to Aguas Calientes – After a full day of exploration, we board the scenic train to Aguas Calientes, the base for our Machu Picchu adventure.
• Overnight in Aguas Calientes – Arriving in Aguas Calientes, we’ll settle in for a relaxing evening, preparing for the next day’s exploration of Machu Picchu.

Machu Picchu Exploration
• Machu Picchu Tour – Early morning, we make our way to the Inca citadel for a deeper exploration than most tours. With 2.5 to 3 hours, our guide will tailor the experience to our preferences, allowing us to explore the ancient paths once walked by Incan royalty.
• Tour Highlights: Discover the stories behind Machu Picchu’s majestic structures, soak in panoramic views, and take time to truly feel the magic of this historical wonder. After a fulfilling exploration, we return by bus to Aguas Calientes.
Afternoon: Return to Cusco
• Train Journey to Ollantaytambo – From Aguas Calientes, we board the scenic train to Ollantaytambo, where the ground team will be waiting to transfer us back to Cusco.
• Optional Extended Stay in Machu Picchu: If desired, we may remain in the exit area of Machu Picchu for a bit longer after the guided tour.

Enjoy a day of leisure in Cusco, allowing us to explore at our own pace or participate in some unique optional activities.

We rise early at 3am to make the most of our visit to Rainbow Mountain.
• After a 1.5-2 hour climb, we enjoy a moment of serenity at the summit with warm coca tea and snacks, while taking in the stunning landscape. If we are lucky, some friendly alpacas might join us for a rest.
• Our trekking time is about 1.5-2 hours uphill / 1-1.5 hours downhill
• Distance: 3.5 miles / 6 km round trip
• Difficulty – It’s recommended that we engage in regular physical activity (1-2 times per week) to prepare.
The high altitude can be challenging, and we can rent a horse for part of the way up for about $20, but the last section is too steep to use the horse.

Departure from Cusco – Airport Drop-Off: Filled with unforgettable memories, we head to the airport for our onward journey. A fond farewell as we head to Juliaca!
